Our
help is in the name of the Lord Who made heaven and earth. Let us pray. Doctor of the Gospel,/ Light of holy Church,/ lover of souls,/ true son of Francis of Assisi,/
Anthony of Padua,/ help us to have a proper devotion to you./ Put into our hearts the flame of love/ that we may cherish
our merciful Father in heaven./ Teach us to treat our neighbor with Christian Charity and forbearance./ May your
chastity,/ your spirit of prayer,/ and your deep inner life/ inspire us to be faithful to God above all else./ Accompanied
by your prayers/ may we also be faithful to the vows of our baptism,/ marriage,/ or religious life./ May we live with
you the gospel of Christ,/ and grow with you in Him.
Holy teacher of the
gospel,/ pray that its spirit may reach the people of all nations,/ beginning with ourselves./ May the love of Christian
worship fill the people of God/ and bring all of God’s children together again/ as one flock with one Shepherd.
Amen.
Prayer of Petition Used in the Basilica
of Sant’Antonio at Padua (All) O dear St. Anthony,/ I have
come to pray to you impelled by need/ and I am confident of experiencing your compassionate goodness./ You are the consolation
of so many people./ Go with me before God./ Pray with me to the Father of mercies,/ and obtain for me the particular
grace I need.
(mention
your requests silently)
I
know my faith is weak,/ but you possessed this virtue in admirable fashion/ and stirred it up in the crowds with your preaching./
Revive it in me,/ and make it stronger and purer./ You led the gospel life./ Help me to make mine more Christian,/ so
that I can be a worthy child of our heavenly Father./
O St. Anthony,/ help
me in my weakness,/ and keep me from all sickness and danger./ Assist me always to place my confidence in God,/ especially
in moments of temptation and sorrow./ Shape in us all hearts that are sympathetic to the poor and suffering./
O my protector,/ justify the trust I have always placed in your intercession before God./
Amen
